WELCOME Fall with Orange, Yellow and Reds that HEAL and PROTECT Lungs

Fall is coming soon and warming up with the beautiful, rich and bright colours of Fall’s harvest is just what you need to keep warm and toasty – and HEALTHY!

The colours don’t disappoint in Fall and this is where we start to go “earthy” and dig deep to find what our bodies need for the season of Winter ahead.   Vitamins C, D, E, and beta-carotene (a type of Vitamin A – amazing for lungs) as well as minerals such as zinc, magnesium and selenium.

Fall veggies can be kinda boring on their own and are often not kids fav’s either …squashes, pumpkin, parsnips, carrots don’t add much allure to the dinner plate until you start adding some extra’s that make them sparkle!  The BEST part about this bounty of the earth is that they are loaded with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that support your LUNGS! When we eat nourishing foods and breathe optimally,  the food and O2 (oxygen) is metabolized by the body, producing the energy we need to function and focus, while CO2 (a waste product of metabolism) is released.

Make Fall foods a staple on your table and warm up with the addition of spices such as ginger, cinnamon, clove, peppers of all kinds, sea salts, nutmeg, turmeric (excellent for lung function), saffron, rosemary, star anise, chive, mint leaves, thyme, sage and cilantro are lovely additions to Fall veggies.  Sweeten them up with apples (full of Quercetin which is excellent for immunity and acts as an anti-viral), maple syrup, honey, apple cider, coconut, sweet onion, vidalia onion, pears, lemon, orange and grapefruit, berries like blueberry (goes well with beets, apples, pumpkin dishes) as well as APRICOTS which are powerhouses for lungs.  Apricots are a great source of Vitamin A, which supports a healthy lung lining and fight off infections.  Pure VANILLA extract adds a special flavour and warmth as well.

Add a little crunch to your Fall veggies in bakes, soups, tosses and stir-fry by adding roasted pecans, walnuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, cashews, pistachios, hazelnuts, brazil nuts (full of selenium – good for lungs).  Bake or roast nuts in the oven to give them a toasty flavour.  Toss over roasted or grilled Fall veggies or blend into soups for a rich, creamy texture.

Kick up the antioxidant value and brew up some GREEN TEA and add to your veggie broths for soups.  The antioxidants in green tea and terrific for helping keep lungs healthy and breathing FREE.

Here’s your FALL lineup of Veggies and Fruits to keep you and your’s in top shape this season:

  • Apricots, blueberries, pomegranates, apples, oranges and citrus fruits.
  • Pumpkin, squashes of all kinds, beets, carrots, yams and sweet potato, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, celery, brussels sprouts and cabbages, parsnips of all colours, green beans and mushrooms of all kinds (edibles only).

Fall Lung Tonic:

Get out your juicer and make yourself a little lung boosting juice that will help keep you healthy and breathing clear through the season:
